Game of Thrones is an Americanfantasy drama television series created for HBO by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss. It is an adaptation of A Song of Ice and FireGeorge R. R. Martin's series of fantasy novels, the first of which is titled A Game of Thrones. The episodes are mainly written by Benioff and Weiss, who are the executive producers alongside Martin, who writes one episode per season. Filmed in aBelfast studio and on location elsewhere in Northern IrelandMalta,ScotlandCroatiaIceland, the United StatesSpain and Morocco, it premiered on HBO in the United States on April 17, 2011. Two days after the fourth season premiered in April 2014, HBO renewed Game of Thrones for a fifth and sixth season.[4]

The series, set on the fictional continents of Westeros and Essos at the end of a decade-long summer, interweaves several plot lines. The first follows the members of several noble houses in a civil war for the Iron Throneof the Seven Kingdoms; the second covers the rising threat of the impending winter and the Southerners' fear of the legendary creatures and fierce peoples of the North; the third chronicles the attempts of the exiled last scion of the realm's deposed ruling dynasty to reclaim the throne. Through its exploration of the ambitions and morals of its many characters, the series explores issues of social hierarchy, religion, loyalty, corruption, civil war, crime, and punishment. The story incorporates some elements of magic.

Game of Thrones has attracted record numbers of viewers on HBO and obtained an exceptionally broad and active international fan base. It received widespread acclaim by critics, although its frequent use of nudity, violence and sexual violence has attracted criticism. The series has won numerous awards and nominations, including a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Drama Series for its first four seasons, a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Television Series – Drama, a Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation in both Long Form and Short Form, and a Peabody Award. Among the ensemble cast, Peter Dinklage won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series and the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor – Series, Miniseries or Television Filmfor his role as Tyrion Lannister.

PLOT

Power and violence are central themes of Game of Thrones, and the great number of weapons made for the series – some of which are shown in this exhibit – reflects this.

Game of Thrones roughly follows the three storylines of A Song of Ice and Fire.[5] Set in the fictional Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, the series chronicles the violent dynastic struggles among the realm's noble families for control of the Iron Throne. As the series opens, additional threats emerge in the icy North and in the eastern continent of Essos.[2]

The novels and their adaptation derive aspects of their settings, characters and plot from various events of European history.[6] A principal inspiration for the novels is the English Wars of the Roses[7] (1455–85) between the houses of Lancaster and York, reflected in Martin's houses of Lannister and Stark. Most of Westeros, with its castles and knightly tournaments, is reminiscent ofHigh Medieval Western Europe. The scheming Cersei, for instance, calls to mind Isabella of France (1295–1358).[6]She and her family, as depicted inMaurice Druon's historical novel seriesThe Accursed Kings, in particular, inspired Martin.[8] Other historical inspirations for elements of the series include Hadrian's Wall (which became Martin's great Wall), the fall of Rome, the legend of Atlantis (ancient Valyria), Byzantine "Greek fire" ("wildfire"), Icelandic sagas of the Viking Age (theIronborn) and the Mongol hordes (theDothraki), as well as elements from theHundred Years' War (1337–1453) and the Italian Renaissance (c. 1400–1500).[6] The series' great popularity has in part been attributed to Martin's skill at fusing these disparate elements into a seamless whole that appears credible on its own terms as an alternative history.[6]

"The Sopranos in Middle-earth" is the tagline showrunner David Benioff jokingly suggested for Game of Thrones, referring to its intrigue-filled plot and dark tone combined with a fantasy setting that incorporates some magic.[9] In a 2012 study, the series was listed second out of 40 recent U.S. TV drama series by deaths per episode, with an average of 14.[10][11]

Dark Souls vs Dark Souls 2

Dark Souls 2 is different than Dark Souls in several fundamental ways. While Dark Souls 2 features the legendary difficulty, exploratory spirit, and trademark epic boss battles of its progenitors, it alters several key game play components which players of the original Dark Souls take for granted.
Video: Making Dark Souls 2

Humanity and Hollowing

Humanity is handled much differently in Dark Souls 2. Humanity is no longer measured by a numeric rating, and need not be expended to kindle Bonfires. Instead, a single death strips a character of his optimized human state, rendering him Hollowed. Each death leading to Hollowing and death after Hollowing reduces a character's maximum HP. This reduction can eventually bottom out at restricting up to 50% of a character's available HP.
The only way to reverse this process and become human again is through consuming a Human Effigy, a fairly rare and precious item. Burning an Effigy immediately restores humanity and resets maximum HP to its optimal status. Note that this change does not actually restore any lost HP, it just resets the maximum, meaning you'll need to rest or heal afterward to enjoy the full benefits.

Leveling Up

Leveling is no longer accomplished at Bonfires. Instead, players visit a single woman who stands near a cliff and Bonfire in Majula. Players can Fast Travel at the begining of the game this time around. It's easy for players to return to this hub point and spend their souls to increase theirAttributes.
This lone woman also grants you an initial Estus Flask, and expands the capacity of Estus Flasks by integrating Estus shard fragments into the original flask. These flasks are still refilled via Bonfire. Later in the game, Estus Flasks can also be permanently improved at Bonfires by burning a consumable item, increasing the amount of HPO they recover in a single use.

Starting Classes

Dark Souls 2 includes eight starting classes, reduced from the ten available in the original Dark Souls. Two of these classes are brand new: The Explorer and the Swordsman.
The Wanderer, Thief, Pyromancer, and Hunter are no longer available as starting classes. Each class is specked and equipped differently to provide a player with a new starting challenge.

WARRIOR

Lives on the battlefield. High strength and dexterity. Starts with a sheild.

KNIGHT

A traveling knight. High vigor and adaptability. No shield to start.

SWORDSMAN

A swordsman that honed his skills. Fights well with a weapon in each hand. Starts with an upgraded scimitar and longsword.

BANDIT

A ruthless bandit. High dexterity and can use a bow. Can react to both long range and short range threats. Best for players that want to start a dexterity build.

CLERIC

A cleric on pilgrimage. High faith. Has learned a healing miracle from the start.

SORCERER

A wise sorcerer. Can command sorcerey with high intelligence and attunement. Has learned soul arrow and is good at long ranged combat.

EXPLORER

An explorer traveling through many lands. Does not excel in any particular area, but comes equipped with many items, allowing them to fight advantageously from the beginning of the game.

DEPRIVED

A nude person with unknown background. Fights empty-handed. Starts at level 1 with all stats set to 6 and does not receive a starting weapon.

Timed Invasions

Visits to other characters' games are now limited by a timer. [1] Covenants still exist but have undergone some refinement.
Players will still have opportunities to both help or hinder those they visit.

Combat Changes

The AI is in some cases more aggressive. Targeting is refined, and back-stabs are significantly more difficult to land. Some enemies' weapons will embed in surfaces, requiring them to be dragged free and opening them up for counter-attack. [2]

Torches

Torches are now lit at Bonfires. They are a consumable item but may be lit without penalty.

Fast Travel

Fast Travel between Bonfires is now available from the beginning of the game. Players may travel at will between Bonfires without penalty, though doing so causes all enemies to respawn.

Physics

Ragdoll physics are now removed, replaced with much tighter body movement during wound animations and falling. [3]

Watch Dogs on Wii U not cancelled Reports confirm that the game is still available for preorder.

UPDATE 1/24/2014 12:00: Sources at the retailer GameStop in the US have clarified that the disappearance of Watch Dogs as a preorder option was caused by a computer error.
The game is now available for pre-order again the Italian GameStop site and should be available again in the US as well, putting the issue to rest.
The title of this article has been changed to reflect this updated information.
Update: Kotaku is now reporting that GameStop US is cancelling Wii U preorders of Watch Dogs.
A Ubisoft representative declined to comment on the matter when asked by GameSpot.
Original Story: GameStop Italy is said to have cancelled preorders for the Wii U version ofWatch Dogs.
Reported by Italian Nintendo site Wiitalia, a GameStop employee is reported to have said that Ubisoft had scrapped the version after the retailer previously phoned customers to tell them that their preorders would be withdrawn.
The site claims that Wii U hardware and software sales played some part in Ubisoft's and GameStop's decision. Last week Nintendo cut its sales projections for the Wii U by two thirds as part of its disappointing financials.
GameSpot has asked Ubisoft for clarification.
Ubisoft has said that Xbox One and PlayStation 4 will help bring "excitement" back to the games industry, and last week GameSpot editor Dan Hindes investigated what Watch Dogs could do to the open-world genre.
Watch Dogs, which was originally due to be released last November, is also scheduled to be released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 at some point between April and June 2014.

Watch Dogs-Multiplayer

Watch_Dogs will feature both online and co-op Multiplayer modes. Both will center around the single player campaign and the various hacking tools that are available.

Online Multiplayer

The announced multiplayer modes can be played while in the single player campaign. A player from around the world can enter your game to hack and upload a virus to you, or vice versa. If you can find the player somewhere in the city before they finish hacking, you can hack them back or kill them. Of course, the original hacker can defend themselves and kill you, too.

Other Multiplayer modes will be announced at a later date that feature more than two players.

Co-Op Tablet Multiplayer

The Co-Op Multiplayer will allow one player to play Watch Dogs on a console and one player on a tablet. Both Android and iOS are supported for tablet play. The player on the tablet can be use the tablet anywhere in the real world as long as it's connected to the internet, meaning it does not have to be connected to a console to play co-op. The tablet player will have an overhead view of the area the console player is currently at. They will be able to use hacking tools to help the console player escape police or help out with any other hacking needs.

Announced at Ubisoft's E3 2012 Press Conference, Watch Dogs is an open-world urban survival game with a measure of tactical stealth action thrown into the mix.
From the game's official site:
Set in Chicago, where a central network of computers connects everyone and everything, Watch_Dogs explores the impact of technology within our society. Using the city as your weapon, you will embark on a personal mission to inflict your own brand of justice.
Chicago's overarching network is known as the Central Operating System (ctOS), and it controls almost all of the city's technology and information - including key data on all of the city's residents.
You play as Aiden Pearce, a brilliant hacker and former thug, whose criminal past led to a violent family tragedy. While seeking justice for those events, you'll monitor and hack those around you by manipulating theCtOS from the palm of your hand. You'll access omnipresent security cameras, download personal information to locate a target, control traffic lights and public transportation to stop the enemy... and more.

THE CITY IS OUR WEAPON

Watch_Dogs takes place in a fully simulated living city. Using Aiden's smartphone, you have real-time control over the city's infrastructure. Trap your enemy in a 30-car pileup, created by manipulating the traffic lights. Stop a train, and then board it to evade the authorities. Narrowly escape capture by quickly raising a drawbridge. Anything connected to the ctOS can become your weapon.

STREET JUSTICE

Living in inner city Chicago, where violence is often answered by violence, Aiden has learned how to take the fight to the streets. Deliver brutalizing blows with your baton, or experience electrifying shoot-outs with physics simulation that rivals anything in the shooter category. Throughout his journey, Aiden will take on his foes with more than 30 traditional weapons.

HIGH OCTANE DRIVING

Luckily, Aiden won't always need to traverse Chicago's streets on foot. Ubisoft Montreal has partnered with studios such as Ubisoft Reflections, the acclaimed team behind the award-winning Driver series, to provide a suite of vehicles bursting with horsepower. You'll get behind the wheel of more than 65 cars – each with state-of-the-art physics and handling – to explore Chicago's vast and intricate roadways.

DYNAMIC NAVIGATION

Not only does Watch_Dogs give you the ability to take advantage of the ctOS, it also allows you to explore the many layers of Chicago itself. Cut through buildings, scale rooftops, and explore the city's dangerous underground to catch your target.
