                                  TIPS AND TRICKS

GTA Online Day One Prime Directive: Steal a Good Car!

The first Vehicle you take to Los Santos Customs will be fitted with a Tracker that will become your default car whenever you spawn or join GTA Online. The first tracker is free, after that you'll have to purchase a new one for any other car you wish to become your default.
It's worth an extra few minutes of wandering to grab the ride you really want. Note that not all cars will be available for theft in the early game, so choose the best you can get.

Cheats Don't Work

Don't bother trying GTA 5 cheats in GTA Online. They don't work.

Connection Issues Blues

Having Connection Issues on Day One? Don't despair! Players are experiencing black screens, server errors, and mid-game crashes. A particular sticking point appears to be the loading screen for the first online race. Players attempt to queue into the race and find the program frozen.

Save Up For a Micro SMG

Ignore the temptation to spruce up your ugly day one duds. Your cash would be better saved for a shiny new Micro SMG. Though you can't buy one until your Rank climbs high enough, squirreling away your early-game cash for an SMG will leave you much better equipped for success than a sport coat or new pair of shoes. Buy the cheapest clothes you can when the game forces you to visit the Clothing Store.
Link your Rockstar Social Club account and you can pick up a free Sawed-Off Shotgun when you enter any Ammu-Nation store.

Watch Out for Parked Cars

Experienced players with more money than they need can purchaseIgnition Bombs, booby-traps which explode when a Vehicle's key is turned. Watch out for suspicious-looking parked cars. Even more insidious are Remote Bombs, remote-detonated explosives designed to punish carjackers.
You don't want to spend your entire time online with nothing but a Pistol, do you?

Complete Optional Mission Challenges

It pays to complete every Mission to perfection. Optional Mission challenges add to your Reputation. And the better your rep, the better your online experience.

Join a Crew

Crew membership likewise adds to your Reputation. To max out your RPs, team up with a Crew and work together to complete Jobs.

Character Creation

Phone Contacts

Your cell phone works online, and you're able to communicate with other players through your Contacts list. Your friends are in your contact list as well as players in the session.
It is possible to call both players in GTA V and GTA Online to either one. Calling from GTA Online costs $10 per call while calling from GTA V is free.

Winning the First Race

Lamar's car accelerates more quickly than yours, but you can outrun and out turn him given time.

Indecent Behavior Leads to Indecent Treatment

Early word from those with GTA Online access is that in-game protocol is creating a self-correcting system of player discipline. Campers, griefers, and jerks tend to be ostracized quickly in the sixteen-player maps, with more level-minded players bonding together to keep the playing field fun for all...not necessarily peaceful, but fun.
Protocol largely seems to center around spawn-camping near Hospitals. Griefers have been reported hovering near these community respawn points killing characters as they return to life.

Bank Immediately

You're vulnerable after you finish a Job. If you don't deposit your cash immediately, you're open to robbery by opportunistic players.
Protect yourself from theft by using the Quick GPS feature. You bring it up with the Back or Select key. It's faster than the minimap and can get you to an ATM with precious seconds to spare.
Another solution is to whip out your phone and go to the Maze Bank website where you can deposit or withdraw money as you please. This leaves you slightly susceptible to robbery if you aren't paying attention so use this with caution.

Buy a Garage

After an SMG, a Garage might be the wisest investment you can make in the early game. With a Garage you can begin hoarding Vehicles and putting your newfound online wealth to work.
Garages are pricey and you'll need to save up, but the investment is well worth the cash. Even the cheapest Garage is a wise day one purchase.
The cheapest garage you can buy is Unit 124 Popular St for $25,000
Some players might opt to save up for a house. These come with garages but also take longer to get.

Go Solo

If you want to experience GTA Online but don't want to spend time worrying about getting killed by other players, going to solo mode in the pause menu can be a good choice. You don't get access to all available jobs and activities, but it can be a good way to get adjusted and a get few dollars in your pocket before joining everyone else.

COP FISHING

If you're playing Free Roam mode you can do some leveling by simply following in the wake of others' destruction. Start by stealing a car. The faster the better but at least make sure it's stolen. Then head toward the nearest players you can see on your GPS. Chances are some of them are currently running from the authorities. Once you enter the area of the chase it is likely that one of the cops will identify your car as stolen, which will give you an immediate two-star wanted level. Now you need to evade the cops and lose your wanted level. Once you have lost your wanted level you will gain some RP. Rinse and repeat. Simply driving around with a stolen car can offer similar results but you will level faster by actively searching for cops chasing other players.

Fast Cash

For some easy money, steal a decent care like an SUV or Muscle car and take it to a Los Santos Customs shop. There should be an option to sell the car to the shop for upwords of $7000. This can only be done every half hour or so, however.
Also replaying high yield missions can get you cash very quickly. Specifically missions you get from Gerard have decently high payouts ($5000-$9000) and they can be replayed directly from the post-mission voting block with no decrease in payout.
Once you reach Level 15 Survival mode unlocks.  This mode challenges you to work together with up to 3 other players to take on wave after wave of enemies.  This is a great way to rank up your Shooting stats and making money the higher the wave you progress to.  Reaching wave 7 & 8 are decently easy to reach every time.  Reaching wave 7 will give you around $8,000 and reaching wave 8 will give you around $14,000 along with Reputation points depending on how many kills you racked up.  One of the easiest levels to play is the Plane grave yard level. (Will update with the actual map name later).  Right by the big fence gate is a small building which you are able to climb on top of.  It has great views of the entire map and cover on all 4 sides.  (Higher waves than 8 can be reached but I currently have not made it that far)

A Free Car

If you go online to the Legendary Motorsports website and have linked your Gamer Tag or PSN Account to the Social Club, you should see the Annis Elegy RH8 for free. This is a decent sports car that even comes with free Full Coverage Insurance!
Note that you can't receive this car without first owning either a garage or a house.

A Free Gun

If you are a Rockstar Social Club member and you have linked your Gamer Tag or PSN Account, go to any Ammu-nation in GTA Online and the Sawed-Off Shotgun will be free. The ammo and attachments however are not.
